NY Portugese Short Film Festival

Now in its second year, The NY Portuguese Short Film Festival (NYSFF) was the first Portuguese Short film festival in the United States. The two-night event at Tribeca Cinemas showcased fiction, animation, and documentary short films.

Many of the film’s directors and actors were in the audience at Friday’s opening-night and they continued celebrations at the after party at Pão, a Portuguese bar and restaurant in Tribeca. Other celebrity guests included Portuguese actress and NYSFF judge, Benedita Pereira, and Portuguese writer, José Luís Peixoto.

NYSFF is organized by the Arte Institute, a NY-based non-profit organization that promotes the arts and culture of Portugal. In addition the Short Film Festival, Arte Institute hosts regular programs, such as the Summer Night Series, a bi-monthly screening of Portuguese cinema at Union Square Park the begins in July and runs through September.

NY Portuguese Short Film Festival 2012 successfully concluded yesterday with two sold out evenings at TriBeCa Cinemas.

For two wonderful nights, Arte Institute showcased 14 short films promoting Portuguese filmmaking in New York, Porto and Lisbon.
