Established in 1982, the parade has become one of the major parades in New York in terms of attendance (500,000+). Delegations from the Dominican Republic participate in the Parade’s festivities, affirming unity and strength, and recognizing and legitimizing the accomplishments of their compatriots outside the island. The floats, music, dances and costumes symbolize unity, happiness and continuity of a proud community. Parade participants number over 10,000. There is extensive media coverage in Spanish television, and radio. There is an impressive number of community contingencies, floats, marching bands and musical groups which also provides a festive and lively mood to the parade. – Galos Corporation
