Cocktails At The 2015 Latin Billboards

The Latin Billboard Awards are not just about music and awards. It is also a major league get together. All gatherings are united by a common theme, quality drinks. The people who cater such events are often the unsung heroes of a quality event. Such was the case this past Tuesday evening at the Gibson Miami Showroom in Wynwood.

This event started off the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards week which provided private concerts with emerging artists like Raquel Sofia and Cristantes. Buchanan’s Scotch Whisky and their guests raised their glasses for a toast to Latin music and those building a name for themselves in the industry while celebrating A Lo Grande.

Buchanan’s holds the honor as the official sponser of the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards Show and Afterparty. They continue to celebrate the players in Latin music with signature cocktails which include <a class=”StrictlyAutoTagAnchor” href=”” title=”View all articles about Miami here”>Miami Mora and South Beach Chilled which were created specifically for this years event.

Zoe Saldana now a victim of fashion choice

Zoe Saldana is now coming to realize what being in the public eye can feel like on the negative side of the line. A simple fashion choice of hers has escalated into a controversy. It was ignited when she took the side of Dolce and Gabbana founders Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who drew the ire of same-sex supporters when they made comments against same-sex parenting.

“No! Not at all, that would be the stupidest thing if it affected my fashion choice.”

Zoe responded to the question.

Even though celebrities like Elton John and Ricky Martin have supported a boycott of Dolce and Gabbana, Zoe does not feel that it’s necessary to do so, citing that freedom of speech should not be reversed into a punishment for speaking one’s mind.

“People are allowed to their own opinion. However, I wouldn’t have chosen to be so public about something that’s such a personal thing.” – Zoe

Zoe, whose husband is Italian, and recent mother of twin boys finds the trend of persecuting people for a statement that veers a little from the center of accepted opinions.

“My husband [Marco Perego] is from Italy and if I judged him based on the words that he misuses in our English language, he wouldn’t be here today. It’s like look people, have a drink, relax, it’s OK.” – Zoe

KickStarter Project : Fuchila fresheners

So we love to browse for cool Latin projects to support and we came across this really cool one, we wanted to share with you! Im sure you all will want one at the end of this video.

How could you not? We love them all but this one is just special 🙂 “Anything for Selena”
fuchila selena

So check out Ruben’s idea to replace those boring lil trees with cool artwork!

Motivation: First and foremost, Fúchila is based on great design and pleasing people. The olfactory sense is the strongest and most adaptive of the 5 senses. The olfactory system is strongly linked to the areas of the brain involved in motivation and long-term, emotional, place memory. Those are the driving factors for this project. Through scent and design, I want to being back those iconic figures we grew up with and with them our fond memories of our childhood.

My Story: One day, I pulled up to a light and I realized that everyone around me had the same feo “little green trees” on their rear-view mirrors. What you hang from your mirror says a lot about you. That day I realized I hadn’t found quite the right thing to represent me (besides my rosario). Mi gente (and those who love us) need something better. Something inspiring. Algo bonito. That is why I started Fúchila Fresheners. I designed a line of air fresheners that not only look and smell great, but you can hang with orgullo from your mirror (even long after the smell has faded). No gas station air fresheners ni que nada!

I typically portray the actors, musicians, comedians and historical figures that I grew up idolizing. It isn’t a secret that I’m Chicano or Mexican-American, but I designed Fúchila Fresheners for all people.

I’ll take care of the packaging, so don’t try and put me in a box.

Con Amor,

Oscar de La Renta

RIP Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de La Renta
The fashion world has lost one of its greatest, the legendary fashion designer often described as “Sultan of Suave” Dominican born Oscar de la Renta. At the age of 82, he leaves the world with his fashion legacy to enjoy. The cause of his death is still unknown, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, but said last year he was “totally clean.”
The Latin fashion icon dressed every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy, high profile celebrities and royalty stunning in haute couture. As well as making everyday women look elegant and fashionable in his designs.

“The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die,” he told an audience at New York’s 92Y “Fashion Talks” series in June 2013. “We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life.”

Other favorite quotes from the fashion icon Oscar de la Renta.

“Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself”

“We live in an era of globalization and the era of the woman. Never in the history of the world have women been more in control of their destiny.”

“The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness.”

“We’re dealing with sophisticated customers. What’s most important to these women is individuality. I have to create things she’ll want to wear, no matter who she is.”

“Every season I am inspired by women.”

Las Curvas De La Vida – Tips For Weight Loss

Many celebrities are all over the pages of the tabloids for the changes they have undergone. A lot of the time we see them go from Hot to Not, where they just seem to lose all their umph and let their bodies go. Just take a look at the criticism Christina Aguilera gets for developing her curves from where she was before.

Christina Aguilera's Body

For us real world people, we all go through the similar changes with our own bodies, and we all can relate to gaining some pounds. Often times we get lost trying to figure out what to do. There is so much advice and information out there, and it seems like we live in a world where every celebrity has their own diet or workout video.  It is no wonder why the average person is stuck feeling confused about where to begin!

I have to give a shout out to one hot model in particular who did what not many celebrities would ever dare to do. Vida Guerra, Cuban born glamour model went the extra mile. She took her body to the next level by changing her diet and training hard. She is now a pro IFBB Bikini competitor. She shows how a woman can change and look fantastic as long as they put the work in. It is amazing what the right balance of weight training and nutrition can do to change your figure.

Vida Guerra Workout

Her change was dramatic and very inspirational. She traded her “softer” look to one that is tight and toned with streamlined curves.  Figure modeling is a rough ride for anyone. Not that you have to become a professional figure model to see changes, but you do have to have the same mindset as one in order to change your body for the better. This is not an overnight process. It can take 3-6 months to see significant changes, stay the course and the changes will come. Get your mind in a place where you are ready to get your body right each and every day.

Many people tend to not work as hard as they should on their fitness and training and they get lost in all the advice out there. I know that some recommendations range from “All you need is 20 minutes a day 3 times a week!” to “You must do an hour a day 7 days a week!” Let us not get lost in this.  Here are some suggestions from yours truly to help you get that super model body. I have trained many fitness competitors in the past and have had plenty of success with my clients following this advice.

These tips will have you seeing a before and after like Vida Guerra’s in no time!

lagacy strength training

Tip 1: Put more time in! – Weight Train 3 – 4 days a week

I know it sounds like a lot but for maximum results you need maximum time. Two days does not cut it, twice a week will usually leave you maintaining the way you look. If your goal is to get fit and look right, put more time in. If you do not have much experience weight training it is worth it to hire a certified trainer to help teach you the way.

Tip 2: Cardio – 3 – 4 days a week

This can be separate sessions done throughout the week. The sessions do not have to be long. I have seen great success with 30 minute cardio sessions done at a moderate pace, where you are challenging yourself and working your butt off.  My favorite is simply hopping on a stationary bike, setting it to a moderate level and cranking out 5 miles as fast as possible. This will kick your butt and burn a ton of calories with it!

Tip 3: K.I.S.S. Diet –

Keep It Simple Silly! Don’t beat yourself up in the head about what diets to choose, and what foods are good and bad and calorie counting. Only you know what you like to eat and what foods work for you. For beginners, the best advice is to start a food journal. Write in it EVERYDAY. Then look back and see where you over did it, what junk food you could have cut out,  or where you could have cut down some portions. Most of the time people need to add vegetables to their dinner and a salad to their lunch. Cut out processed foods, like bagels and bread and sugary treats. Plain and simple, this is a great start for anyone!

This is just the beginning of the path. So where are you going to take your fitness goals this year? Good luck and it is time to get HOT!

Stay strong,

– Joey
