Premios Juventud jlo

Recap: Premios Juventud

The awards started with a recap video of the greatest moment of Premios Juventud in the past ten years. The show followed with a stunning performance by Latin Diva JLo who was joined by Pitbull and performed a medley of hits. The performance was so hot they even jumped in a pool. The theme was beach party and the sets had very colorful props along with sunsets, palm trees, pools and swimsuit wearing host.

Univision did a great job in the social media trends as well as with the slide shots during performances and audience props that changed almost every song from umbrellas to glowing finger gloves, beach balls and glow sticks. Univision also joined forces with Mashable’s Associate Entertainment Editor Brian Anthony Hernandez which showed us a behind the scenes perspective through the lens of Google Glass. Check out his behind the scenes coverage:

Jennifer Lopez had a very emotional acceptance speech as she received “Premio Icono Mundial” or World Iconic award which pays tribute to outstanding Artists of hispanic descent. This is the second award of its kind, the previous recipient was Marc Anthony.

Jlo Premios Juventud

Marc Anthony’s performance of “Vivir Mi Vida” was outstanding as expected. The performance highlighted the great talents of this very proud New York Born Puerto Rican.  He attended the awards with his girlfriend Chloe Green despite news that he is trending worldwide due to racist backlash from people on twitter following his performance of the National Anthem at a MLB game.

Marc & Chloe

Other outstanding performances included those by Ricky Martin, J Alvarez, Leslie Grace and a great finale by Yandel performing his new single “Hable de Ti” from his solo album.

Interview With Artur Balder About His Latest Documentary

From left to right: Artur Balder, director of the film, José Manuel Ciria, featured artist, and José María Sanz-Magallón, CEO of Telefónica Internacional USA, esponsor. Photo by Meatpacking Productions / Ambrose Eng

We told you some weeks ago about “Ciria pronounced Ciria”, Artur Balder´s latest documentary. The New York based director of “Little Spain” brings this time a realistic documentary about the renowned Spanish abstract painter Jose Manuel Ciria. Latin Recap brings you this exclusive interview with the Spanish American filmmaker and writer.

Latin Recap: In this film there two aspects: on one hand the art industry, and on the other the artist and his creative process. Is this a deliberate choice?

Artur Balder: Yes, it´s my answer to a structural need. At first, I wanted to analyze the artist from an external perspective: how the others see him. And then from an internal perspective, how he is, how he sees himself and the creative process as close as possible.

LR: What did you learn about the creative process with this documentary?

AB: It´s an industry that depends on the market, its dynamics are very different from others commodities. For example, as an investment objet his consumption doesn´t decrease in recession times, but can increase. Though this is only in the case of renowned and well established artists. For artists in lower levels it’s the opposite, because people don´t want to take the risk and sales from unknown or emerging artists decline.

Regardless of that, doing the documentary I realized that the artist has to make many sacrifices to engage in the market machinery and, ultimately, the market is incompatible with creation. However, the artist needs the market to grow.

LR: Why is the film interesting to the audience?

AB: My film invites the viewer to better understand abstract art from the particular perspective of an artist. Allows you to enter the creative process, I think this is the most interesting, because it attempts to approach the mysteries of creation: all these internal and usually painful phases that can lead to the emergence of a single object which we consider work of art.

Happy Earth Day! 5 things you can do for the Earth

earth day google

Happy Earth Day, earthlings! I’m not going to bore you with statistics about the impact our lifestyles have on the earth, but I will tell you some simple things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint and live peacefully knowing you are doing your part. Besides the obvious like saving energy and water in your home here a few other tips you might consider. Also, head over to google for what might be their best doodle yet?

1. Reuse!

Reuse everything! Before throwing that item into the trash think about how it can be reused or repurposed for another need you might have. A good example is jars. I LOVE to reuse jars. I use them for my huge smoothies then I rinse them and use it to drink water. If you are on the go just put the lid on it. Easy! And free, if you’re a klutz like me, you won’t be too mad if one of these accidentally slips from your grip. Another good thing to reuse is rain water. You can use it to wash your car and to water your plants.

2. Compost!

I would say about 60% of the trash in my home is organic waste material that can be instantly put back into the earth. Fruit and vegetables and natural food scraps decompose and turn into dirt that can be used for your plants or used in your fruit and vegetable gardens. It’s dirt cheap!

3. Plant seeds and trees!

Plants and a trees take in carbon dioxide and create oxygen. People and animals need oxygen to survive. It comes full circle. Simple, clean, oxygen.

vegetables and fruit

4. Know where your food comes from!

Many times the foods we consume travel far distances and aren’t exposed to the greatest of conditions. Or sometimes the way the food is made and the ingredients used aren’t the best for our bodies or the environment. In the end, it might not even be worth the effort, money or resources wasted to eat these foods. There is nothing better than eating foods straight from the earth, the more natural the better. Eating local is best, in season is great and eating organic is ideal but not necessary.

5. Only buy things you need. i.e. Consume less!

(and save money)

Lets face reality, there will always be a new and better product on the market to take care of our needs. Because of this some of us have become huge product junkies sometimes to the point of just being very thoughtless and wasteful. Products sometimes expire before we even get the chance to finish them! Then the disposal of these products becomes just as confusing as how we came to have so many products in the first place. Another easy way of caring for the environment it to use green products or better yet try to cut out as many products as possible, don’t be a goo hoarder!  This is good for your wallet, it’s good for your carbon footprint, it’s good for the animals, and it’s good for the oceans and the lakes.

A wise man once said : “Treat the earth well; it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children.”

"End of innocence" -Romero Britto

"End of innocence" -Romero Britto

“End of innocence” -Romero Britto

“End of innocence” is one of many colorful pieces produced by ROMERO BRITTO. The background is filled with a tangent of different patterns almost resembling adorable cuts of patchwork. Not only are our eyes marveled by the loud vibrant colors used in this work, the title itself also tells us a story.

Symbolism is heavily used in paintings and is an important tool that the audience/observer utilizes to interpret Art. The snake could symbolize ‘temptation’ and the apple on top of its head could be symbolized as ‘forbidden fruit.’ Although most of these symbols are normally depicted as twisted and conniving, BRITTO’S snake is very calm and mellow. The apple looks edible and safe. The subject face is calm-showing, no hostile nature of a snake being wrapped around her funky boots. A daisy- symbol of innocence-rest on her head and is a continuous pattern on her sleeveless dress. Could this be the end of innocence that the title speaks of?  A girl’s metamorphosis into womanhood? or wither you think it’s just some chick next to a snake with an apple on its head- there is no wrong way admire or ponder at Art.

ROMERO BRITTO was born the 6th of October in Recife, Brasil. He displayed signs of being an artist at a very young age and began painting on newspapers. BRITTO is a respected Pop artist who is known for his vibrant colors and elements of cubism. In 1983, he traveled to Paris and became in love with the works of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse which soon became two of his great influences. His name is among pop’ greats such as: Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Romero Britto is also a sculptor.
